2023 Pricing Info
Dear Camp Families,
We are excited to be planning summer 2023! We look forward to welcoming new and old faces to camp and expect it to be another wonderful season. We have begun to meet with new families and still have room in most cabins for new campers. As we begin to open enrollment and hire staff, however, we have been forced to review our finances. Camp has not been immune to the increase in costs for services (e.g., food, fuel, van rentals, staff) that have affected us all at home. While we hope that inflation will continue to slow, we, like other camps, must unfortunately increase our tuition for the coming summer.
Killooleet has always tried to keep costs low. Camp has been working on diversity, equity and inclusion for decades and we are committed to continuing to do this. Alumni are also important to us and we want former campers to be able to send their children and grandchildren to camp. We are thankful for the Seeger Bartlett Foundation and American Camp Association Campership programs, who we have worked with for years and they have helped many families send their children to camp. However, they cannot make up the difference between the true cost of camp and what we have recently charged for tuition.
According to our calculations, in order to cover costs without reducing the quality or variety of activities, we would need to raise tuition by 10% to $12,500. We recognize that this would make camp unaffordable for some families, including some of our returning campers. Therefore, we have decided to charge $11,800, which is not quite a 5 % increase over last summer’s tuition. Both figures are below or in line with what many full season summer camps are charging. We are asking, though, that if you can afford to pay the full 10% increase you do so. This will make it easier for camp to continue to run as normally as possible this coming summer.
To make enrollment and payments easier for you, we have purchased a software program called Camp Minder. On the Killooleet website www.killooleet.com click on the ‘Register’ button in the top right corner. Then read through some basic information before clicking ‘Enroll for 2023’ Once in the system, where there are instructions, you will see three options for tuition level. Do know that Killooleet has one program, and children are appreciated and treated equally regardless of tuition paid. Please contact Kate and Dean if you feel you need scholarship aid. If you are a returning family they will be reaching out to you shortly. Scholarship recipients should choose option 3. In CampMinder you will have the 3 options to pay, including by credit card and echeck through their system. Both have a fee automatically built in. If you chose manually, you can also send checks payable Killooleet Inc, to PO Box 70, Hancock VT 05748, which have no fee. There are further instructions at the enrollment site.
Please note that even though we will bill you in four installments, you can choose to pay in many installments. An important way we make camp easier to include in your budget is the fact that you can spread out your payments through November 2023. You can do this regardless of your total tuition. If you are choosing to do this, we ask you to 1) let us know your plans and 2) put the payment dates in your own calendar.
We get reports from camp that lately there has been snow enough to plow and ski on, although January was unseasonably warm. The horses are doing well and we have a friendly new horse named Cinnamon, who is a quarter horse with a stripe on his nose. We have finished rebuilding the Maintenance shed and filling it with tools, and are working on the rest of the building.
We have talked with a few current parents about siblings as well as classmates who are interested in Killooleet 2023. Don’t hesitate to get in touch about potential campers or staff! We value your assistance as we build the community and your support means a great deal. We hope to be able to see many East coast families in person this spring as we check in about the winter and share details about the coming summer. If you or your child have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We look forward to talking with you and welcoming you to Vermont in June.
All the Best,
Kate and Dean
