This years Killooleet Sing is at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 30th 2024.
We hope you and your child will be able to join us at the Dalton School, 108 East 89th Street, NYC. Dalton is between Lexington and Park avenues. Tickets are available at the door - $20 for campers and adults. A family group rate is available for $70 to make it easier to bring siblings and grandparents. Cash and checks made out to SBF are accepted, as well as paying for tickets online through the SBF website. You will see Rachel Sondheimer (Sasha and Simon’s mom) when you arrive. Please note, Dalton requires a check of your identification when you enter, either your driver’s license or another form of ID.
The Sing is a Killooleet reunion, but it also raises money for the Seeger Bartlett Foundation. SBF is a 501(c)(3) foundation which sponsors children so that families who could otherwise not afford it can send their child to summer camp. It was founded in honor of the educational vision of Margaret Bartlett, who started Killooleet in 1927 with Toni Taylor. It was renamed to also honor Ellie and John Seeger who bought Killooleet in 1949 and made it the camp it is today. This foundation is tremendously important for Killooleet scholarship grants. Without SBF we wouldn’t be able to offer as many scholarships.
.
Performers (current and past music counselors and the Seeger family) donate their talents and time so that all ticket proceeds go to the foundation. We hope you will come and join in the choruses. It has been a challenging year, and it is important to gather with the Killooleet family to celebrate and build on our strengths. Parents and grandparents who are reading this, do come! The feel of the Sing in the Dalton theater approaches that of the Main House, and singing together affirms our community.
We have a table with Killooleet items: the keepsake/memory cookbooks, flashlights, some foldable water bottles, and new this year canvas bags with Mishka’s (a counselor) design of the Mama Brook that you saw on the t-shirts. Blue stickers of that t-shirt design and Killooleet embroidered patches will also be on sale. NEW: We are raffling former camp gifts (sweatshirts, t-shirts, sweatpants, backpacks, fleece blankets, fleece hats). Buy your tickets early, the drawing will take place in the second half. Killooleet items are sold to benefit the Killooleet horses, who eat a lot of grain and hay all winter. Please plan and bring some cash and/or checks because we don’t have the ability to take credit cards.
The Sing begins at 3 pm and is over by around 5:45 pm.
Campers often have get-togethers before and after the Sing. If you haven’t already, please check in to be sure everyone is included, and that campers from out of town have a place to stay for the night. Even in this age of cell phones, be sure that parents know when and where to pick up/drop off their child. If your child will not be attending the Sing this year, perhaps they can visit with friends through the magic of technology. Parent emails and some camper emails are in the Banquet folders.
Video counselors have been hard at work on final versions of camper projects and the 2025 SUMMER MEMORIES video. When they are finished after the holidays, we will make them available to camp families. We will email you a link for your family, not to share or put up on any form of social media or website. The memories filmed are personal, and for the comfort of all families we share them only with camper families and staff.
Finally, we need your help. We have begun talking with prospective families, which is
exciting! We are grateful to those of you who have been recommending
camp, and those who have been willing to speak with prospective families who also
wanted a parent’s perspective. This year we graduated a large and wonderful group of
oldest campers – so we need a larger than usual group of new campers. Without them
we cannot continue to operate without changing the program. Remember
we have referral bonuses of $200 reduced tuition or $100 of Killooleet swag when
someone you have referred attends. If you are willing to talk to prospective parents on
the phone or host an open house on a winter weekend, please let us know.
We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and we hope to see you!
Kate, Dean and Hileia
Parents, please share the below with your children- Thanks you!
When you enter Dalton, immediately check in at the ticket table. Dalton policy is that all attendees are registered. The Security Staff will be checking photo IDs for adults and may also check campers who have them. If you don’t have a photo ID, that is okay, butbeing checked off on our lists is important. And counselors want to say hi to you!!!
Please remember that your behavior at the Sing reflects on Killooleet just as it does in a campground on overnighters. You are representing Killooleet to people on the street, nearby businesses, and at the Sing itself. It is important that the Security Staff at Dalton and other people feel that Killooleet children are respectful. Your polite behavior means we can rent the hall again next year!
Please be your most thoughtful selves and be inclusive of others as you reunite for a few hours. There are campers who might feel excluded, and the hurt might sit painfully for months until you see everyone at camp in June, and it might affect their willingness to come back to camp. Thank you. It takeseveryone’sefforts to make the Sing feel as comfortable as those last days at camp. Think about putting your phone away for the afternoon! You may socialize in the lobby. You arenotpermitted to explore the other floors of the school.
Plan to stay inside the auditorium for most of the Sing, either in the back of the hall or up in the balcony IF it has been opened. It makes the Sing so much better when campers are joining in on choruses of favorite songs. Help us keep our community strong by joining in. Remember that during the summer you line up to get into the Sings!
Thank you!
