PARENT VISITS

Parent visiting is limited to one full day (9 hours) between Saturday July 20 and Sunday August 4. You are welcome after 10am (daylight) until 7 pm (daylight). On Sunday please don’t arrive before 11:15 (daylight), as your child will be busy with cabin cleanup until at least that time. We suggest you plan two half days and stay locally as one full day is exhausting. If you can come on weekdays (other than Wednesday, which is hike day, and Friday, which is cabin afternoon) it is better because weekdays are less crowded than weekends. Grandparents are welcome to stop by for a few hours. We ask that they contact camp to schedule a short visit.

Your child is your host but please check in at the Office when you arrive. Our kitchen will put up a picnic lunch if you order it when you notify us of your visit. Please use the short form below to schedule your parent visit. The kitchen cannot stop at the last minute to make a lunch. As we eat lunch at 2pm (daylight), many parents choose to arrive by then and leave before lunch the next day. Bring your swimsuit and tennis racquet as well as a sweater and rain gear because Vermont weather changes hourly. Our courts, lake and fields are yours to use at your own risk and discretion unless campers are using them. The use of any camp equipment (e.g., canoes) is subject to camp rules and counselor permission.

Children do not leave campus with their parents/guardians unless we declare it a rainy day, at which point you sign them out and back in at the Office. We allow off-site visits on rainy days so that parents can have conversations with their children, which can be tricky if 20 parents and children are rained into the Main House for rest hour. On sunny days please do not take your children to the local stores, even Hubbards. If desired, you can fill their requests and return.

If you visit, bring something your child enjoys as well as something that can be shared with cabinmates and counselors. Please leave this with a cabin counselor to minimize hurt feelings and stomach aches. Since many parents are visiting in the middle of camp we are overwhelmed with food at that time. You may be telephoned before your visit with grandiose requests. You will be told what another parent brought, vastly exaggerated. Please have the nerve to keep what you bring simple. Some glorious fresh fruit is always appreciated in addition to the requested sweets and snacks.

GETTING TO CAMP: Hancock is in the center of Vermont, on Route 100. The camp driveway is on the west side of Route 100, just 50 feet south of the junction with Route 125. Most parents drive to camp. Please be careful when navigating by GPS - spotty cell service and dubious road choices by the GPS can create unsought adventure and towing charges! Print directions before you leave and do not follow your GPS down roads you hadn’t planned on. Old roads recognized by the GPS may not be suitable for your car.

We hope you have a great visit!
